“Teens and young adults are more environmentally conscious than previous generations, and they are increasingly aware of the negative impact of fast fashion on the planet,” she said.

“Don't get discouraged if you don't find what you're looking for right away,” she said. “Be open to trying new styles and colors and vibes you wouldn’t normally try. Play around. Fashion should be fun. You might be surprised at what you find.”

Look for timeless pieces perfect for your capsule wardrobe, such as vintage clothes making a comeback or one-of-a-kind apparel to define your individuality. “My style has been transformed by filling my closet with high-quality basics rather than fast fashion clothes,” said Averie Smith, 16, who found her favorite Urban Outfitter jeans at 1404 Collective.
